About Opencash
Our Mission
Opencash is out to promote long-term investing in a fun and exciting way.
Based on historical data, holding a broad-based portfolio of stocks over an extended period significantly reduces your chances of losing your principal. In fact, the average holding period was 8 years in the 1950s. However, recently that holding period has decreased significantly. According to a Reuters study of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) data, the average investor holds their shares for 5.5 months, and that trend is getting shorter.
So if holding stocks for an extended period has proven beneficial, why are stock-holding periods getting shorter? Simply put, "forever" investing is boring. Instead, there is more excitement to realize profits more quickly. However, this approach could be costly to the investor if not done correctly.
Opencash aims to fix this problem by making long-term investing fun and exciting. Each week, you get a chance to win prizes for simply growing your portfolio. To do this, we pool a portion of our earnings and redistribute it to you through weekly scratch-off tickets. Therefore, as you grow your portfolio, we reward you for building good habits. Who says investing can't be fun?
