Is the scratch-off program a lottery system?

The TL;DR for all of this, no, it's not a lottery system.

  1.  Opencash does not generate revenue or profit from each scratch-off ticket. Instead, think of it as an incentive system to help you become a long-term investor.
  2. Yes, it is fully legal. Our scratch-off incentive program operates under the Savings Promotion Act of 2014, passed during the Obama administration. You can read about it here: https://www.congress.gov/113/plaws/publ251/PLAW-113publ251.pdf.
  3. Two key takeaways of why the law was passed:
    1. More than 40% of American households lack the savings to cover basic expenses for three months if an unexpected event leads to a loss of stable income.
    2. Prize-linked savings products are typical savings products offered by financial institutions, like savings accounts, certificates of deposit, and savings bonds, with the added feature of offering chances to win prizes based on deposit activity.
  4. Given the problem many Americans face, we wanted to build a brokerage firm to help customers invest and save for the long term.
